Dance Teacher
Jas Tan
Originally from Singapore, Jas began her dance journey at a young age and has built over 15 years of experience primarily in Hip Hop and Contemporary, with foundational training in Ballet. Much of her artistic growth was shaped through her time with Soka Youth Dance Crew, where she embraced the guiding spirit of “Many in Body, One in Mind”. This philosophy continues to influence her teaching and performance style, using dance to connect individuals through a shared purpose of inspiring and uplifting others.
Jas has performed in large-scale national productions including Singapore’s National Day Parade, the Southeast Asian Games Opening Ceremony, Chingay, and the Youth Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, along with numerous cultural showcases such as YFest. Since moving to Calgary, she has also performed in projects including UCalgary Dance Montage and Pulse Studios productions, continuing to expand her artistic journey across communities. Beyond performing, Jas has coached dancers for large-scale national productions, helping them step confidently onto major stages. She previously taught at Kinderdance Singapore, where she choreographed and directed year-end concert performances for young dancers. During her time at the University of Calgary, she founded and served as Director of Urban Groove Dance Club, creating an inclusive platform where dancers could train, perform, and grow in both skill and confidence.
Jas is deeply passionate about building community through dance. She believes dance is a powerful tool for storytelling, emotional expression, and confidence building. Through her classes, she strives to create empowering and welcoming spaces where every dancer feels connected, inspired, and free to express themselves.
